Unhappy New Year

14 min read

It's January 1 2021, and you are not going to hear a "Happy New Year" from me today. Instead, I will take the time to tell you why. As it so happens yet again, there are multiple reasons, each more disturbing than the other.

Consider that last as a warning and a disclaimer before you read on.

The world has been changed and since I no longer can stand the violent propaganda conventional news, I sometimes brush upon the things said by various people in my relatives' limited social media circles - you know, just to keep track of things a bit and to observe the thought lines of what I consider to be my enemy: the hooman society. Know the enemy, as they say, and I find it important to measure and gauge the mindsets and attitudes of said society, and in particular the certain kinds of insanity that run more and more rampant these days. That's partially a lie of course, I actually search for the voice of reason.... albeit seldom it is to be heard these days. And so the following contemplations are stirred by things I've seen and heard the last couple of days alone.

I'll start with this morning's horror.... because I just cannot pass it by, and I don't care if I'm spoiling your optimistic New Year mood, this needs to be said, it absolutely needs to stop.

happy new year

What you're looking at is the corpses of songbirds strewn across the streets of a hooman city after last night's New Year "celebrations". This is the real face of the pretty fireworks.

To be honest, I've always been fascinated by fireworks, and of course I like watching them. I like the pretty colors, the shininess, and I generally like explosions and fire. However, that's all I've ever been - a watcher of the show that neighbours around my town put up every year, my family never participates in it. But the recent years I also repeatedly reflect upon the massive amounts of smoke that is the aftermath of that "show". Even so.... I admit I never saw such a horror coming. I also doubt it is a first, and I very much doubt it is a last. So yeah, I have been fascinated by fireworks.... but if the price of this "celebration" are millions of innocent lifes and vast pollution spikes.... not only of fine dust particles, but also gunpowder residues, most of which I assume are sulphur-based.... then I honestly would be extremely, extremely happy to never see a firework splash in my life anymore. I won't even start on my stupid neighbours shooting a rifle in the air to accompany the fireworks because apparently there's something "cool" about that. No, there isn't. That so-called tradition reveals deeply rooted complexities that you've done so little in your life to leave a mark in this world that you need to produce a literal bang to feel that you actually exist. Such petty, miserable midgets. Whereas the trace left is measured in corpses of these poor souls caught in the horror of what they probably thought was the world exploding. Did this spoil the fun? Did you now feel sickened by what you thought last night was pretty? Or are you just cussing me right now for being the neverending "party-pooper"? Are you angry at me for picking apart the good celebration mood from day 1? I couldn't care less, honestly, because

SHAME. Absolute, SHAME on hoomanity.

Shame for destroying so many innocent lives for a few minutes of vain celebration. Shame for indulging in such HIDEOUS shitfests of vanity, wastefulness and total consumerism in a time when the planet is already panting under the huge and evergrowing weight of the more and more obese hoomanity. You'll tell me maybe that after suuuch a hoooorrible yeaaaaarrr that you had -spits- you really really needed this to unload the terrible load off your chests. Well, all these sweet little chests now strewn on the streets didn't take your unloading, in fact they are all DEAD, because you had to indulge in this absolute madness. SHAME. I'll get back to the "all so horrible" year a bit later too.

But there was another thing I wish to share, it isn't unrelated to "the all so horrible" year too. Yesterday, there was another exclamation that caught my eye. Someone reflecting on the fact yesterday, December 31, was a spring day: birds singing (that is, before the fireworks massacred them), late spring flowers blooming, bees buzzing. Apparently, this person said, everyone is "happy" that "this terrible year is finally coming to an end". That was about the dumbest thing you can say. I'm gonna quote another person: if even in Moscow there's no snow on New Year, we're seriously in trouble. To put it in perspective, where I live, climate was temperate, it had 4 full seasons of relatively similar length of about 3 months each: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Winter is pretty much gone now. When I was a kid, I couldn't imagine a New Year without snow. I remember it, and I remember the shock and disappointment when a snowless New Year happened for the first time. Nowadays, I cannot imagine the opposite anymore. Each and every time someone rejoices at that fact or proclaim that oh, it's sooo nice, it's gonna be yet another spring day in November, December or January out there, it makes me SICK. Those are people who absolutely cannot see beyond their own nose. I also cannot figure how the fuck. They were here when last year (the "non-horrible" 2019, that is) had 8 months of continuous drought, they are here each and every summer when temperatures stay well above 40 degrees for weeks. I suppose they will be here when this once bountiful land becomes a desert - they may be, but not for long. But no matter, rejoice at the "spring" in December, you "sapient" hoomans. Yet even so, I had never expected such stupidity as to declare that the birds are singing because they rejoice at the end of the "terrible year" 2020. Yeah, I am well aware that was figurative - probably I'm more aware of it than its author. However, I'm also aware of what kind of mindset and thinking this indicates, and it absolutely disgusts me.

So now I'm coming to the topic of the "terrible" year.

So you say 2020 was terrible. You were holding on to your pillow, tucked in your home and not daring to poke your nose out because of that virus is all so scary stalking you at the doormat, and you were waiting in hope for the blessed January 1 to rid you of the immense suffering? What the fuck are you thinking? That the change of one number is going to change anything? It's not gonna change anything. In fact, there was nothing wrong with 2020, 2020 was a perfectly normal year. It is hoomanity that was NOT normal, it was society that went from abnormal to totally insane. From the moment it went hysterical about a flu, it's been a rapid downfall only.

I have never, NEVER imagined even that hoomanity can become such a hysterical, insane mess, that it can go to such extent of idiocy. A year ago, I would not have believed such a thing can happen, and yet here we are: hoomanity in the grip of an epic, absolutely unprecedented stupidity and patheticness, cowering in front of their monitor screens (because only the internet is "safe") because of a virus the kind of which the normal animals do not even notice.... wasting IMMENSE and valuable resources while the planet is running more and more ravaged and depleted.... and completely IGNORING the massive catastrophe that is STILL being staged across the globe on pretty much every frontier I can think of, all the while thinking that a STUPID FLU is their real problem. If it was not absolutely disastrous, it would have been ridiculous to the point of unprecedented absurdity.

YOU DARE.... TO SAY.... THAT YOU ARE SUFFERING???

Let me show you what is REAL suffering.

You, pathetic semblances of apes, have NO FUCKING IDEA what REAL SUFFERING is - and yet you are causing it far and wide to billions, billions of living creatures that have done nothing against you and whose only "defect" is that they do not belong to your own messed up abomination of a species!!!! AND YOU DARE TO TALK TO ME ABOUT SUFFERING?!??!? Cowering like the miserable wretches you are because "oh noes the fluuu kiiiilllllls", what a shock that you are not immortal, clinging to your miserable existence which, because of this mass hysteria I cannot even call a life anymore, as pathetic as a child that is first discovering that it doesn't always get everything in life and can't quit crying over it, and yet sacrificing BILLIONS OF LIFES for its own needs, for indulgement, for entertainment, FOR GREED. SHAME ON YOU. That kind of animal that does that, does not deserve to live. Words are short in my mouth to say how incredibly cynical, how ugly and how atrocious it is to go to that kind of absurd extent because you cannot bear anymore that people die of diseases, while you're massacring the Life on Earth. Words come ABSOLUTELY SHORT.

I'm gonna tell you that: I have never liked hoomans. Never, since a child, unfortunately, trapped as one of them, I already disliked your kind. But even I had never imagined that hoomans can be so stupid, so short-sighted, so arrogant and yet so incredibly pathetic.

Keep blaming it on the year. The year was fine. YOU were not. And for as long as you keep blaming it on the year and just hope for better days, the better days will never come. I will tell you a secret: better days don't come - they are MADE. You lay your fate in the hands of your greedy politicians that only care about their power, and on yet greeder corporations that only ever cared about money. You are laying your health and life in their hands, and then HOPE? Much sapient, so wow. For as long as you just stay home, cowering, hoping, thinking it's all the year's fault, things will never ever get better. And while you stay there more pathetic and miserable than ever, the world around you - the REAL world - is being put through immense, REAL suffering, more and more, continuously, and it will be until either you do something about it, or until nothing at all is left to ravage and destroy. Keep blaming the year, and I blame YOU, because a stupid flu made you completely forget about the absolutely catastrophic disasters that befell poor Earth a mere year before. Keep talking nothing but your covidiotic stupidity, vaccinate yourselves into laboratory mice for the gain and profit of a couple of corporations, but it won't be long until you will be forced to find out that none of it was really so scary or actually a suffering. Because what you do to the Earth today is going to happen to yourselves tomorrow. There is no going around that, and at this point, to keep ignoring, to keep cowering and refusing to accept that you ARE mortal, while plundering each and every resource on the planet, is to be an infantile brat that is going to break all things it can lay its hands upon just because it is not allowed to play with a new toy.

Seriously. Quit whining. Quit being pathetic slaves to the whims of those that are killing the world. Quit waiting for someone to fix things for you. Quit praying and hoping and take your life back from those fuckers - and this time actually do something useful with it.

That is the only chance for the future.

To rephrase a recent quotation I liked: I can die out of many things, and I certainly will die sooner or later, and I am quite fine with that. But what I do not want to die of is FEAR.

So yeah.... sentiments all stirred by publications I've skimmed upon.

See, I pay attention to all these things. There have been people telling me my mistake is where I go skim through social media like facefuck in the first place. NO. You are WRONG in saying that. Because all this is written by someone, these things are indicative and very much real in the mindset of society, and not heeding them would be to bury my head in the sand while they are screwing the world ever further. We will never see a better day until we stop ignoring ignorance, stupidity and arrogance and start actually doing something against it. Of course, there's the everpresent question of what on Earth can you really do? Ranting on yet another social media is, I admit, a very poor choice as well. Alas, this is all that seems to be in my power at the moment. But I keep thinking to myself (and perhaps fooling myself) that if I make a few persons pause and consider, if I change a few minds about how they see things and if they heed these problems, then my time spent wranting is not entirely in vain. That I do at least something. I'd very much wish to fight it otherwise, but what otherwise is even available to me? Art perhaps, and this little figurative rock in the vast Hyde Park of DA from which I've been screeching every once in a while. That and aiding from afar those that are working on the frontiers to try to repair and revert the damages done by humanity. In 2020, since I've been mostly home, didn't go to many places and didn't spend all so much time out, nor did I buy much stuff altogether, by far most of my expenses have been for donations abroad. I actually like that. I seldom really need to buy things, and why buy if I don't need it? So I can donate more too, and the non-human world out there absolutely needs it. That is, I think, the best way I can try to help at the time being. And by also calling yet again:

Stop idling. Stop ignoring. Stop turning your gaze the other way.

The world around humanity is dying and there is no time left to slack!

The way I see it, hoomanity's impact on the Earth is so catastrophic and so omnipresent.... each and every single one of us is contributing and facilitating the ongoing extinction of Life on Earth and the absolute catastrophe that hoomans are pulling from so many ends is going to crush HARD on ALL of us. Each and every single person is responsible and MUST be part of the solution. The way I see it, it is each and every single person's absolute duty to not only try to reduce their personal impact upon the planet, but also contribute to environmental programs in what way they can, because each and every single person is contributing to the mass devastation they are trying to revert. There are no buts and howevers anymore, this is how things are now and sooner or later everyone will pay the price. The only choice is whether it is now, by giving what we choose or later, when reality takes it all away without asking our opinion anymore. Although, the way things are going now, the latter seems to be inevitable anyway.

WARNING. This will be hard. I won't spare what I think.

Every once in a while I have to argue with someone about the fact that what humanity is doing to the rest of the world is absolutely atrocious. Even people who generally agree and dislike what humanity is doing, often find that I am too radical in my views and feel the need to argue in various ways in defence of their species - which is perfectly natural, I understand. I understand the natural need to defend yourself and your point of view. I understand the natural aversion to see oneself and as monster, as the villain, as the calamity that brings destruction. But while you're doing so, what you forget is to look from the point of view of the other Living Beings on Earth. Over the years I've grown the ability to do so. To look at this world through their eyes - not through the human. The world that is equally also theirs, yet they are never given the chance to decide its fate anymore. Through those sorrowful, painful eyes, what I see is.... nothing short of monstrous. That is why I argue, that is why I fight. Because I see you from the side, as you often refuse, and what I see is.... words just come short to express how horrible and devastating it is.

Here is the truth. Humanity is cancer - a cancer upon Planet Earth.

United-States-Big

Think that's beautiful? Now look at the land's contours and instead of marveling at the shiny beauty of your cities, look for the dark spots - those are the only places that still contain wild land, land for the Wild Beings to live in. Look at how much you've taken and how little you've left for them - for all of them. You are just one species. They are millions. Scattered in the dark corners, torn from each other, tucked in the little space left that you haven't taken from them yet. Yet. Because while their populations are shrinking and vanishing, yours is only ever growing, and so does your demand, for land, for food, for water, for everything.

Some argue that every living species that had the capability to do that, would do the same. Some argue that your species has achieved the power to win the land and this is also a form of natural competition - one that you are obviously winning massively. Some argue that this is part of Evolution and Life - some species overpower others and take what they have won rightfully. Some even argue that all those who perish in the process are the price of further Evolution, or even that the disasters that follow are necessary for further progress to take place. Mass extinctions have happened before, and this is how Life gains a fresh start, eh?

I know all about Evolution, its principles and laws. I AM an evolutionist myself.

Yet I can tell the difference between evolutionary progress and mass extinction - for the first time in 5-billion long history of Earth caused single-handedly by one species of animal alone.

I can tell the difference between Natural Selection and competition - and total exploitation of every possible natural resource on the planet - something the Earth has never seen before.

I can tell the difference between Evolution and mass murder out of nothing but greed, stupidity, more greed and the primitive drive to dominate, to conquer, to posses and to slaughter someone who once was greater than yourself.

I can tell the difference between evolutionary victors and the soulless monsters you've become, ravaging, plundering, devastating and exterminating Life across the globe.

You heard me. This is criminal. This is monstrous. This is soulless.

Despite the evolutionary view, despite you may believe you are entitled to your "success", right here, right now, has come the moment where morality should also speak, even clear against your perceived "right" of what you've claimed. Because resting on that alone in relation to all other Life on Earth is no longer how Life works. It is monstrous and hideous only. It is also despicable. Because while your civilization is causing mass destruction, mass death and suffering to millions every single day.... while the disasters you have created and keep aggravating are suffocating, melting, burning and poisoning the world.... making Their survival ever more difficult.... at the same time you sit comfortably at home, most of the time totally and utterly absorbed by the insignificant matters of your own egocentric species ....no. Under those circumstances, you do NOT have the right anymore to tell THEM that all of this suffering you've brought on them is "needed for Evolution" or is "how Life works".

Because Life does not work like this. Life is most of all, about LIFE.

About respecting it. About cherishing it. About it to thrive and live on.

Under your rule, none of this is the case anymore.

And everything you've said to me, is an ugly attempt to justify the most murderous, monstrous and devastating atrocity in the 5 billion years long history of the Earth.

Nothing more.

Just look at them.

Look at them and tell them they must die because of your greed, because of your stupidity.

________________________________________

The pictures from the previous paragraph, what they illustrate:

  • Birds fallen victim of petrol, from oil spills or other oil pollution of water.

  • Birds and marine creatures entangled in plastic trash and fishing nets.

  • Bleached corals and toxic pollution upon coral reefs.

  • Massive pollution of the ocean with plastic waste.

  • Masses of dead fish floating on the surface, result of toxic pollution.

  • Oil spills lasting for years, even burning continuously in the middle of the sea.

  • Massive industrial air pollution, both toxic and detrimental to the climate.

  • Monstrous forest fires from the recent years: Amazon, Siberia, Australia.

  • Mass deforestation, total devastation of the Natural ecosystems and wildlife.

Finally, some striking examples of the human monstrosity.

  • Dead Passenger Pigeons in a box. Once billions of these birds flew over North America far and wide, until the "civilized" human began slaughtering them in the most massive and monstrous deliberate extermination of vertebrates the history may have ever known. Pigeons were shot en masse, shot in their nests, trapped by thousands in nets, poisoned with alcohol to make even easier to kill, shot at with artillery, captured and kept alive in packed pens to keep their meat fresh while hundreds were dying in the process, while a barrel full of dead pigeons was worth less than 50 cents. Even after they were extinct in most of the continent, the last colonies in the north were exterminated methodically, by slaughtering 50 000 birds every day for months. Within only decades, a population of billions of birds was completely exterminated.

  • A massive pile of American Bison skulls. Once numerous far and wide across the North American grasslands, the Bison was driven to near extinction. Populations in the late XVIII century is estimated to have been over 60 000 000. Only a century later only 500 of them were left. While they still survived, many other known and unknown species have suffered the same monstrous fate and were blasted into oblivion by humans. One of them is also the Dodo Bird, whose skeleton is the last of these pictures.

I know many such stories. I've read. My heart bleeds, my soul weeps, I feel sick and grossed by you, and yet I keep reading. Because somebody must, because this must not go unnoticed, it must not be forgotten, and it must never happen again. Yet despite the mass extinction you've caused, despite you should be learning by the horrible consequences, you humans keep exterminating Wildlife, you keep plundering Nature, you keep devastating the planet. Then when I say that I hate the human species, you should already realize I have fucking reasons behind this. I suffer with each and every death, animal or plant, and you have no fucking idea how much pain you've put me through with what you do. But that totally pales compared to the pain and suffering you've caused to Them.

But here I stop speaking emotionally and I will lay out some facts. I did say humanity is cancer on the Earth. I stand by that and I am going to show you the parallels between cancer growth and the way humanity behaves. Until now, it was my pain and suffering for the Life of the Earth that you destroy. From here on, this is Science. This is facts.

Modern Biology and Medicine define Cancer by 6 main and key hallmarks:

  • Cell growth and division no longer need growth signals. While the normal way tissues grow is regulated by the body and genes by means of chemical signals, Cancer Cells no longer need those signals and keep growing and replicating themselves self-sufficiently, regardless of the rest of the body.

  • Continuous growth and division even against contrary signals. While the growth of healthy tissues is normally inhibited when anti-growth signals are delivered from the body, Cancer Cells don't budge and keep growing and multiplying, completely ignoring those signals and the normal functions of the body.

  • Avoidance of programmed cell death. The natural life cycle of most cells is limited and eventually, after they have served their function, healthy cells are programmed to degenerate and die, as part of the natural and healthy renewal of tissues in the body. Cancer Cells do not obey this programming and never die as they should, being practically immortal.

  • Limitless cell division. Most cells in the developed organism can only divide themselves (i.e. multiply) a limited number of cycles and over a certain time period, which restricts their growth over time to reasonable extent. Cancer Cells keep multiplying fast and in an unlimited fashion, sooner or later depleting any and all resources of the body, exhausting it to death.

  • Demanding blood vessel construction to feed the cells. Because cell growth and division requires substantial amount of structural material and energy, the tissues of Cancer need more and more blood supply to deliver nutrients and oxygen. The Cancer Cells literally demand the body to build more blood vessels to feed it, until the body's resources are depleted by the overly grown tumor.

  • Invasion of healthy tissues and formation of metastases in them. While healthy tissues have limited growth and do not structurally change any of the nearby tissues, the Cancer Cells actively invade other tissues and start multiplying in them too, often "corrupting" them into more Cancer tissues in the process.

These are the characteristics and behavior that define a cell and tissue as Cancer. They are selected as definition for Cancer for a reason - these are precisely the characteristics of the Cancer Cells which make it so invasive, so destructive and so deadly for the organism. It no longer obeys the organism and its normal functions. It sucks in the inner resources of the organism for its own needs. It invades healthy tissues and turns them into Cancer too. Because of how it behaves, it eventually kills the organism it developed in.

And now let us see how these hallmarks of Cancer literally apply to humanity as a whole:

  • Humanity's growth and spread no longer need growth signals. The populations of any other species will grow only when they have the conditions and resources available to do so. Many only breed seasonally. In many, only select individuals, who exhibit the best genes, breed. In all of them, the rate of breeding is balanced by the rate of death by competition and predation. To the contrary, humans breed constantly, indiscriminately, regardless of any and all external factors and conditions - and they practically do not suffer losses to competition and predation to other species anymore.

  • Continuous growth and spread even against contrary signals. When the environment degrades and conditions worsen, most other species cease to reproduce - often purely because they cannot spare the additional energy to do so, as they hardly even survive. Nowadays, the whole planet is suffering massive detrimental effects from human activity, and land space and other natural resources are running lower and lower - a clear signal that human population growth must stop accelerating. Regardless of that and the awareness of that, humans keep multiplying.

  • Avoidance of programmed organism death. Every living being has a naturally limited lifespan and must eventually die; that also includes death by Natural Selection, where the less adapted fall victims of predation, competition, of diseases and disabilities. To the contrary, humans do everything possible to avoid death for as long as they can - despite the fact they slaughter millions of other beings every day without as much as batting an eye, they cling to their own life, often at the expense of enormous resources, in a most cynical and moralless fashion.

  • Limitless reproduction and spread. Every species is naturally restricted to certain areas and conditions, by their own adaptations and lack of such. Beyond their own niche, they cannot effectively spread, and this is what facilitates vast biodiversity, because every species occupies only their own limited niche, leaving plenty of space for others. To the contrary, humans have spread to every possible environment, all over the globe, and keep spreading further and further, leaving no space unoccupied, pushing away all other species from their natural niches in the process.

  • Demanding resources to feed the human civilization. Every living being needs resources to live and reproduce - everything from food, air and water, to living space and home. However, most living species on the planet are content with only as much as they need and do not take more than that from the environment. To the contrary, humans exploit every possible resource they've found any use for, and in order to obtain what they want, they lay waste across the globe, plundering the land, taking the livelihood and homes of all other living beings, consuming everything for their own ever-growing demands, often at nothing more than a selfish whim.

  • Invasion of healthy environments and formation of metastases. Every species, as settled, inhabits their own natural environment and niche and even if they all migrate and spread, their adaptations limit their spread and prevent them from becoming a calamity. However, what humanity does is to spread until all resources are exhausted, often overpopulating their area, and then not only spread to other areas, but radically change the environment they colonize. They often destroy entire ecosystems, any and all wildlife in them, only to make more space for their own settlements and activity. This process is extremely devastating and together with their rapid, limitless spread, it more than anything else defines humanity indeed, as Cancer.

Do you see the parallel yet? Do you see how your species behaves as Cancer upon the Earth? Fancying yourselves as "the crown of Evolution" and the one "sapient" species on the planet, I believe you rather should. Forgive my caustic tongue and cynical remarks, but I haven't been driven to that because the world is all happy and wonderful. Not in the eyes of those who are dying from your cancerous civilization. Not in their hearts and souls full of pain and misery. They have families and loved ones too, you know. They have their home you take away, they have their life that you destroy. Some of them live the horror of seeing their whole kind to be shrunk and driven to extinction. Some of them see the last of their kind die before their eyes, knowing this is what awaits them too. You cannot even imagine the pain and horror of that. In the end of the day, it doesn't matter anymore what brought you here.... what enabled you to do this, what gave you all that power and whether or not you have the right to claim it all. All that matters at this point is how awfully much suffering you've caused and keep causing. At least, I believe that. I - the evolutionist. I sincerely believe that no being with a soul can stay indifferent to this horror. To this madness. To this monstrosity. Some of your species have still proven me wrong....

Fair warning. I have written this under deep affect.

I don't want to talk. I don't want to discuss, I don't want to hear any more arguments. Have some decency and at least keep silence in respect to all those who die by your hands. If after all you still believe your species is worth defending for all this atrocity, I have nothing more to say to you for I have nothing but contempt and hatred left. Shame on you.

In regards to what I mentioned the other day.... I want to share, as much as I feel absolutely disgusted with what happened and with writing it.... However.... take this seriously:

WARNING: This is going to be ugly. DO NOT READ ON if you are sensitive for Nature and Life, or the environment, or get easily overwhelmed by the human crimes against Nature.

I'm not joking, do not ignore that warning, do not read on if you take such things too heavily. I know I did and I regretted for a while that I even know.

I live in Bulgaria near a small town next to the capital. The district mayor for a second mandate now is a fairly young man, an engineer from one of the patriot parties, who got to the post thanks to the support of people for raising his nomination for the elections. My family supported him too, because he sounded reasonable and well-meant. I withdraw any and all support for him years ago already because he seems to believe that trees can only get in the way - along streets and roads, along canals (apparently they are somehow blocking the canals, regardless of the fact their root systems actually keep the canal walls in place), in the school yards, the list goes on. I am extremely sensitive to tree murder. I've seen a lot of ugly shit pulled by ugly-minded humans in my life. But I've never seen such a massacre in my area as since this fucking scum has been mayor. When he was up for his second mandate, I did not vote for him anymore. I was right.

What this two-legged abomination authorized just days ago, crossed all boundaries. This is no longer I being overly sensitive. This is an absolute atrocity. The town has a park, next to the high school, and the park is fairly small, but its trees are old and large - yet perfectly healthy - beautiful great trees that any park could be proud of. In the trees, the local colony of rooks has been nesting. The area is abundant in farmlands and there are many rooks around the town and the nearby villages. Many of them nest by the river, on the huge poplars there, but apparently some of them made home in the town park as well. Much to the displeasement of some idiotic citizens, it seems. As far as I know, some of them complained that the birds were an annoyance and hampered kids playing in the park. So what did the good people-obliging mayor do? Authorized the trees to be mutilated so that the nests of the whole rook colony are brought down. Moreover, an opinion was sought from a professor of forestry in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences who RECOMMENDED the trees to be completely ripped apart (calling this "sanitary trimming") as this would get them rid of the birds, as they desire.

These are pictures of this atrocity: link

What they did to these great, beautiful trees. Not even the spruces were spared (even if I highly doubt the rooks nested in the spruces), my mother reported to me they cut off the tops of the spruce trees. This means that even if they survive, they can no longer grow. Pointless, cruel, atrocious mutilation. The kind of thing that makes me believe that humans simply enjoy destroying beauty and Life.... especially Plant Life. I don't know. Maybe it makes them feel powerful when they mutilate and destroy something so much greater and better than themselves - like a Great Tree.

Many of these trees are doomed to die now. Some will die immediately, from suffocation because they are left with no branches, no leaves at all to feed their vast root systems. Some will die a few months later, from terminal exhaustion because they will not make it past the shock and energy loss of losing all their foliage and trying to create it anew. Some will die years later because their horrible wounds all over will be a gateway for parasites and diseases for years to come. In fact I think it is fair to assume ALL of them will die WAY BEFORE THEIR TIME because of this.... this.... this absolutely monstrous crime against their lifes.

But they are not the only ones against whom this was a crime.

The rooks who nested in these trees are, expectedly, gone now. Their homes - destroyed. The rooks will just fly away. They will build new homes. But their homes.... when this happened, their homes were full of little birdies. This is their nesting season. The little rooks were only fledgelings, helpless and dependent on their home and on their parents. As their homes were brought down from the trees, the little fluffballs were brought down too. Many probably died the moment their nests fell. Many may have died later, terrified and helpless on the ground as indifferent humans watched their own human kids playing indifferently around them - now happy there are no rooks above them to disturb and poop over their heads. The whole colony was destroyed, they lost ALL OF THEIR YOUNGLINGS. I do not know if many of you are aware, but the rooks - great corvid birds - are exceptionally intelligent. They have a highly developed society, they know to make tools, they have a language with distinct dialects that differ from tribe to tribe. They are smarter than dogs, smarter than most primates. They are persons. They are extremely social. In fact.... They are people. They have suffered this loss the same as human people would suffer it. Can you imagine what it feels like to see the home of your entire tribe destroyed? All of your young ones, killed? In one terrible, terrible blow, a horror of roaring monstrous machines, the trees that used to be your home, falling torn apart.... your own children fallen on the ground, and you cannot do anything. These birds experienced this. Just like you would have.

This atrocity.... caused a huge uproar in the local community. Facebook exploded with the anger of the people. The majority find this to be a monstrous, barbaric act, that only served the selfish whims of a handful of human wretches that cannot look past their own nose. A few feeble voices still try to protest this was for the better. After all, the birds were pooping on their heads. Apparently the devastation of a whole park and the terrible suffering of dozens of bird families are a fair price to keep a few human hairdos intact. Another idiot started posting links to articles (that seem fairly copy-pasted) about how dangerous park trees are: "a tree fell down and killed a young man in Varna", "a tree fell down and killed a young man in Burgas" and so forth and so forth. Indeed, lately horrid storms have grown more frequent, the winds growing ever more powerful every now and then knock down a large tree. Which is by the way a direct consequence of global warming and is part of climate change. What is the solution, apparently? To cut down all trees we have, lest one of them falls on some idiot that doesn't know better than to NOT walk under large trees in a storm? In short, instead of fighting climate change that brings about those disasters, we "fix" a problem created by this damaging our world even more. Very.... sapient.

That is my own disdain and hatred speaking now, but the vast majority of people are outraged and demand punishment for what has been done. In fact.... I said before that this was a crime against the trees and against the rooks. As it so happens, in this case it is a crime even according to the local human laws. The law for biodiversity of Bulgaria clearly states that it is illegal to disturb animals in their breeding season.

So.... what are we doing from now on. Legal responsibility will be sought. We waited for the weekend to be through to contact medias and try to pull media attention to this to help us put pressure on the matter and make sure they do not get away with this. My family for one - once support for this soulless bastard - are now determined to make him pay for what he has done. I want him taken down. In any case, there will be consequences for them. It won't bring back the dead little birdies, it won't mend the trees nor mend their life. But it can be some justice and a lesson to those bastards that such brutal, abominable actions do not go unpunished....

As for the rooks.... they have left already. But when this happened, a lot of signals were sent to the regional environmental inspection and they ordered the surviving birdies to be collected and taken to the biggest Wildlife Rescue Center in Sofia. They are really devoted and skilled in what they do, I have confidence as many of the birdies as possible will be saved, healed and released in the wild when they are ready. Of course, they will carry the trauma from this horror for life. But the rooks are strong birds.... they can overcome this and live their life.

So now you know.... why my hatred for humans burst out.... after I was rendered quite inadequate the other day when I learned about this. Admittedly, I was too shocked and crushed by this to participate in the counteractions.... but my mother is in the front line, determined to set this as right as it can be. She is an environmental activist, and that is thanks to me. My brother is at her side, and he sides with Nature also to a great extent thanks to me. It is good to see that even if I cannot bear to do the fighting myself, I have made other people into warriors for Nature in my stead. It is also good to see that this didn't go unnoticed in general. There are people here who are not indifferent. They are outraged and will demand justice for the destroyed lifes and beauty. For Nature.

P.S. Why, it is a fact that I am a misanthrope.... and perhaps crazy. I hate the human species. This.... this is just an example. A million atrocities like this - big and small - I have seen, heard of or read about in my life. I am not human you know. I do not look at this from your standpoint. I look at it from the standpoint of the tree you kill. The bird whose child dies. The wild being whose whole kin disappears in front of his eyes. I cannot fathom why you do this to this beautiful world. I cannot fathom why you cannot see it. I do not want to, either. But just know, that seen from the side.... from out of your narrow-minded, self-absorbed way of thinking.... what you do is.... ineffably monstrous.

Greetings everyone! I would like to make a little announcement and address some points that have come up so far in discussions here in the Group.

News & Future Plans

Within the past couple of weeks we have been recruiting people into the Group. It goes a bit slow at times, since we discovered there's a limit to the number of pending invitations at any given time. I plan to go promoting the Group more actively once the vacation season (August) is over, since a lot of people are actually away now and there's a measurable decrease in traffic on DA altogether, which is normal and happens every year. So we are hoping the group can grow more rapidly after the peak of summer is through.

Depending on how big the Group will grow, I feel our chances to reach the Staff and prompt them to listen to what we have to say grow accordingly. For now, we are a small group, but our numbers grow very rapidly by comparison to other, similar Groups before. We are looking forward to our 200th member, and then we will aim to 500, 1000, and so forth. Building up a Group takes time, but while we are gathering forces, so to speak, it is important that we accumulate more and more materials - YOUR FEEDBACK - into our Galleries. So keep writing and submitting feedback, but also, whenever you come across articles regarding "Eclipse", please submit them to the Group as well. They will be reviewed by us and if their authors give permission, they will be included in our Galleries even if the author is not a member. This is just as important as gathering member support, as it will demonstrate our seriousness and that we have something to say that is worth hearing. This is the very first message we want to send to the Staff.

A word about Submissions

There has been some debate regarding Submissions and whether or not certain forms of expression should be allowed in the Group. I wish to inform everyone I have declined any suggestions that more emotional and strongly expressive materials (mostly on the negative side) should not be admitted to the Group. From the start, our idea of this Group has been that it will be the voice of the Community - the place where everyone can express their own opinion regarding "Eclipse" freely, no matter how positive or negative it is. Furthermore, as Artists, we need the freedom of expression when we communicate our position and view. This is part of what many of us don't like about "Eclipse" to begin with - the fact that it limits our self-expression by removing key customization (including but not limited to HTML/CSS). We are NOT going to do the same in this Group.
Therefore,

The Group will remain open for all forms of expression from our members, we shall not assume any right to censor the way the Community wishes to express its opinion regarding "Eclipse".

However, I wish to impress on everyone that our common goal is to speak our mind regarding the changes, but even more importantly so try to do it so our voice is heard about what we - the DA Community - want to become of "Eclipse" in the future. The point of having this Group is not to just hate on "Eclipse" to our hearts' content, because chances are then all our efforts will be in vain. In order to be heard, we must speak reasonably and express argumentation. In order to make the change for the better that we all want to see in "Eclipse", we need to focus on CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.

How to write Constructive Critique:
  • Write reasonably. Perhaps the most important thing about constructive criticism is that it should be analytical. Look at "Eclipse" from an objective and practical point of view. What are the problems of its structure and how do they affect navigation and your work with the site? What functionalities are missing or not working well? What problems do you see? What issues impair your experience during your normal use of the site? Think and analyze in depth - focus on facts, seek the reasons why things don't feel right, but also include your perception as a user. "Eclipse" is first and foremost a site for us to use, it must serve OUR needs.
  • Be specific. Pinpoint the things you don't like about "Eclipse" and describe them in a way that others can understand exactly what displeases you or doesn't work as you would wish it to be. See the site through the eyes of a developer - there are problems that need fixing, but in order to have any chance to make it better, you have to know exactly what the problems are. Let the Staff know exactly what is a problem TO YOU.
  • Add argumentation. A great way to make a point and add much more weight to your opinion is to ground it on strong argumentation. Be it logical structure, functionality, appearance and aesthetic appeal, or even your own experience and preferences, the way you personally use the site - there are many ways to back up your critique to why the problem you point out is valid and worth consideration.
  • Propose improvements. If you can, it is a great idea to propose improvements. Not only it displays seriousness, it makes a critique much more mature and even more useful in the process of development, but it is also the way to convey to the Staff the way YOU would actually like things to be. Bear in mind not every proposed improvement can be implemented - most likely not everything you suggest will even be technically possible. However, the one and only way to possibly see the functionalities and features that YOU want is to actually propose them!
  • Mention positive sides as well. It is a good idea to describe what you like about "Eclipse" as well. For one thing, that may help predispose the Staff to listen to us and show them we are not just a bunch of haters to ignore. For another, it is important that they know what we like about it so that it stays and gets developed in the future as well - and it can also show them better what the Community finds important and likable.
  • Set strong emotions aside. We are all passionate about what we do - this is what makes us true Artists. However, from a psychological point of view, emotional outbursts do a poor job to make a point, while a cool, rational rhetoric has much better chances to convince your peer - including the Staff - to see things your way. Therefore, the best way to make our point and achieve our goals is to adhere to reasonable talk as well as respectful language because showing respect prompts your peer to respect you in return. This does not mean to not be passionate. By all means - you are an Artist, live your passion! But wherever you can, use your passion to make a strong, well-grounded point and convey it in a way it will be respected and actually considered by the Staff.

That said, I would like to invite everyone in the group, write your feedback - either as a Deviation or Journal - and submit it to the group. Each and every one of you has joined us for a reason - because you are not indifferent to "Eclipse" and the changes DA is undergoing. Most of you are active users who are on DA on regular basis and contribute to the site in many ways. All of you, I am absolutely sure, have their own opinion on "Eclipse", its looks, its functionality, its layout, what it provides to you. It doesn't matter if you're a professional web-designer or a regular user who simply wants their experience on this site to be made better - your opinion and feedback as a member of this Community is equally valid and worth sharing.
YOUR OPINION is the one that matters! It is also what this Group is really about - to make YOUR OPINION be heard. That's the point of this Group, it's as simple as that. So once again:

Write your own Opinion and Constructive Critique about "Eclipse" and submit it.

There has also been a lot of discussions on the problems in "Eclipse" going on, in comment sections both here and elsewhere. I've seen many, many comments with valid points and constructive feedback, but unfortunately we cannot add comments to the Group Gallery to save them as feedback which can be read by more people and by the Staff. There's a simple solution to that, however. Any constructive feedback, analysis and rhetoric you write on the topic of "Eclipse" that you feel is worthwhile telling the Community and Staff - even comments in discussions anywhere - you can repost as Journals or literature Deviations and submit into the Group. Let us gather as much constructive criticism as possible.

As always, suggestions for the Group and our future development are welcome. Share your thoughts in the comments.

I have a little announcement to make.

As you may know, technically I am a hobbyist artist, I devote my free time to art and my spiritual work, while I actually work full-time as a level designer for a local game developer. Thing is, while I enjoy my game-dev work and I consider myself lucky with it, it being full-time has its drawbacks. With my numerous own projects in all the various areas of creativity, the demands of a full-time job, which is also creative, often leave me with little time and energy to work on other things. It occurred to me I would be able to do a lot more if I work part-time only, but that inevitably comes with reduced income. So here's where the idea kicks in to find financial support in the people who actually enjoy and appreciate my own creative work - You. Of course Patreon crossed my mind, but due to recent events and the subsequent ideological reasons, I have decided not to join that particular site. Other such options that are effective enough are not abundant. However, a dear friend of mine recommended to me the tip-jar kind of site that ko-fi is. So this is where we are currently.

For the time being no major changes will occur in my life and the way I do art. I consider this to be mostly an experiment for now - to see if my art can fill a tip jar once in a while. I am far from thinking I can make a living of my art this way, as beautiful as that would really be, but the purpose of this is really to add a little something to my livelihood in exchange for all the creative work I do and all the time I devote to make what people come to enjoy on my pages. If this proves at least somewhat successful, I can find a lot more courage to switch to part-time job eventually and dedicate significantly more time and energy to my art and to spirituality.

One thing I feel I should mention in this regard. I have to say I detest the concept of paywalls and I do not wish to resort to that in order to make a living from my art. Yes, I am aware this is the way that actually works in order to make a living out of art. However, I want my art and all my creations (except the occasional commissions of course) to remain completely FREE and available for anyone to view and enjoy. Regrettably, I expect that this is by far not as effective and reliable as paywalls are, as people often naturally prefer to avoid paying for something that they can enjoy for free. Therefore, it comes to the understanding and conscious will to support the artist. That's why I ask for your support simply because you like my work - so that I can keep it free.

So now these little buttons may appear around my page
:

Buy Me a Coffee at ko-fi.com

Please consider using them. If you like what I do, this is a way to support me so that I can keep doing more of it in the future. Every bit counts, I assure you.
In addition to my art and the works of photography I wish to keep posting, this is also the way to support my spiritual work, which I actually feel very devoted to.
Many of you find my spiritual writings insightful and helpful. It is a demanding and responsible work, yet I do it for free.
I want to keep it this way - and I will, but every bit of support would be very much appreciated.

My page: ko-fi.com/lapislazuri
Still under construction, basically, I am uploading my gallery of artwork there too.
It doesn't contain anything I don't have here and this is how I want to keep it.
My main page remains here and everything gets uploaded here first.
