Description

Out of the many by now spiritual pieces I've drawn, this is perhaps the most definitely and purely spiritual.
You may wonder what is this cosmic festival of colors and why is a snake nebula called this way.
If so, and if you're interested of course, stay and listen. The spiritual lore ahead is Satanic and is what I believe about Life and existence.

This whole piece is composed of symbols which, although not many, are powerful and meaningful to me.
So I will briefly elaborate each one of them, why is it important and why it's in the picture.

The Serpent
The Serpent is one of the oldest and most powerful symbols in spirituality*. Since ancient times to the modern days, the Serpent is a representation of Life itself, and in many ways, on many levels. From the purely pragmatic view that the DNA molecule's double spiral resembles a snake with a pattern on the back, to the ancient Caduceus symbol which represents healing, spiritual power and enlightenment - the Serpent has always been first and foremost associated with Life both in the physical and spiritual sense. In particular, in spirituality a snake symbolizes the Kundalini Serpent - a powerful energy within the soul, an embodiment of the Lifeforce itself. The goal of spiritual practices is to unlock this energy and let it rise into the soul taking it to a higher spiritual level. The Serpent is a direct representation of that. Therefore the Serpent is not only a symbol of Life - it is a symbol of Life at its best - strong, powerful, spiritual and thriving in this life and beyond.

The Colors of Life
The many colors of the nebula are the chromatic representation of the energies which the soul is woven of. Each color represents a different part of the soul, different aspect of its structure and powers linked to it. Red represents the instincts for survival and self-protection; orange is the power of Life to procreate itself; golden is the willpower; green represents love and hatred alike; sky blue denotes the ability to feel and express oneself, literally the voice of the soul; indigo stands for sentience, intelligence and insight; purple is the color of enlightenment and the spiritual itself. All of those colors are essential and necessary for Life. Life only thrives in all of them, from the most fundamental instincts to the highest level of spiritual enlightenment. Without any of them, Life cannot achieve harmony. Among other things, the Serpent empowers these energies and connects them all together.

The Sun
The Sun represents spiritual power and respectively its source within the soul. Its most direct and essential manifestation is the willpower. Just like the Sun is the most powerful and vital source of energy in the solar system, and the origin and primal engine for everything which lives in it, so is the willpower the force that drives all endeavours, everything you do, and is the only thing that makes it possible for wishes, yearnings and dreams to come into reality. Without will, life is impossible. Only a strong will can achieve harmonious, happy life and spiritual freedom. From a spiritual point of view, the will is the raw power of the soul. Everything in life begins with the will. Because of all this, the golden Sun - the color of willpower - has a central place in the composition and is towards where the Serpent is flying.

All of the above should already enable you to interpret the image. The cosmic Serpent traveling through the Astral space, painting it with the colors of Life is a representation of my idea that Life is a cosmic phenomenon. It doesn't just exist in this tiny speck of rock we call Earth. It exists across the Universe, throughout the Astral, as the Lifeforce is unstoppable, untamable, uncontainable. It will always wander, it will always roam free, painting the Universe with Life, giving it a soul. The Earth is just a tiny spot along its eternal journey. But precious too because every small flame of its energy is alive and unique and will probably never ever happen again. Keep that in mind and respect it.

Of course, this is just a glimpse of how I see the world.... or more precisely the Universe - and the place of Life into it. The only thing that makes the Universe beautiful and gives sense to its existence is Life. Without Life the Universe would be devoid of meaning, purpose, it would be empty no matter how much matter it contains. If there is no Life to live in it, the Universe might as well not even exist. Life is the very soul of the Universe.
Since I began with the remark that this is the spiritual lore of Satanism, I will add one more detail. Besides being a symbol of Life, the Serpent is also one of the sacred animals of Satan Lucifer. Therefore Satanism, that is the belief in Life.

* Unfortunately it is also one of the most speculated with. In certain beliefs the Serpent is slandered into a symbol of deception and "evil", but this is nothing more than an inept attempt of said beliefs to corrupt and destroy actual spiritual knowledge.
I am not going to speak of it any further here and I invite you to keep any slandering views on the Serpent away from this place.

Inspired by The Rainbow Boa - a creature I've wanted to draw for years already. Well, this isn't exactly it. But as a matter of fact halfway through drawing this I wasn't happy with how the colors worked, it was too chaotic. Then I came back to the Rainbow Boa's iridescent pattern and that gave me the idea of how to arrange the colors, which later became the finished piece.
