Description

Someone shows up in the office with their worm, everyone goes aaah, oooh, cuuute, (ugh), and what does Lapis do? A stamp with blood splatters all over babies XD That should be encouraged because it keeps me from actual violence XD

Kidding aside, this is actually a serious and important point I'm trying to make here. Overpopulation is not a joke. It's not just some haters (like me) being edgy, either. It's a damn serious problem, which people massively continue to ignore. As a result, the world human population keeps growing, and growing fast. True, the largest known historical peak has passed a few decades ago, but this far doesn't mean there is no problem anymore. Why? Because even if at a slower rate than back in the 1970's humans still reproduce at a rate that guarantees their population to continue to grow significantly, while the tendency with pretty much all natural resources is quite the opposite.

In Nature, two main types of growth rates can be observed - one is slow and steady, with occasional peaks from time to time; the other is rapid and sometimes explosive, and can in certain cases turn exponential. The first one is typical for large mammals and birds, large fishes, generally for predators, for trees, and other large organisms. The latter is typical for rodents, small birds, small fishes, generally for small prey animals, for insects, grasses, fungi, bacteria, etc. However, note that in Nature in both of these cases and in all variations in between, the organisms achieve equilibrium with the environment, incl. with the other species - mostly by means of predation and competition with the other species. In the first case, for many large animals, the leading factor is competition because not many predators can kill them; however because their population growth rate (i.e. reproduction rare) is relatively slow, they don't overpopulate their habitat. In the second case, while the smaller organisms usually reproduce at very high rates, their populations also lose equally large numbers to predators, so they still don't normally overpopulate their habitat. This is how Nature deals with overpopulation - it prevents it from happening.
However, humans are no longer significantly a subject to neither competition nor predatory control anymore. In other words, the normal ecological mechanisms for population growth limitation no longer function for your population. This shouldn't be much of a problem for a species which is aware of how things work in the ecosystem and as a matter of fact practice population control (supposedly) to avoid the damage which overpopulation would imminently cause - but, with one little however: humans subject to control the population of each and every other species they deem necessary (not by restricting their reproduction but rather by killing them indiscriminately), EXCEPT for their own. While in fact the biggest and most devastating known populational calamity in history, is that of their own species. Just how arrogant and hypocritical that is.

Currently, the human population still grows at a close to the exponential rate - the type of reproduction rate that is typical for insects. Why is this a problem for humans if it isn't for insects? Quite obviously, because your demand for resources is VASTLY bigger than that of a single insect. Or even than that of a whole swarm of insects for that matter, ESPECIALLY in the modern hyper-consumer society. And since your population is growing, and so are your demands for resources, humans do what every other animal would also do - they move on and claim new territories in order to obtain more resources. However, no other animal has ever claimed the entire planet. Not only that, but humans have claimed each and every possible habitat they find useful, and they pillage each and every possible resource they have ever come up with any use for, even those which they really, REALLY don't need to survive. Which is the majority of resources they pillage, in fact.
In Nature, most resources, especially the most vital ones like water, food, air, sunlight, soil, etc., replenish themselves in time. However, even if they technically cannot be depleted for as long as there is a Sun and Life on Earth, their capacity to regenerate is not infinite. In other words, if your demand for those resources surpasses their rate of replenishment, they WILL be depleted eventually. As of now, humanity has long surpassed that capacity - and its demands keep growing farther and farther beyond that capacity with each and every year, while your population still continues to grow at its insane rates. What makes it even worse is that because humans keep pillaging mindlessly the natural resources, they manage to gradually destroy the ecosystems thanks to which these resources can replenish at all to begin with. Once these ecosystems are destroyed in a given territory, humans simply move on to the next one until they devastate it as well. Thus, said replenishment capacity is actually shrinking in time. In other words, not only the human demands are growing, but they are slowly - but relentlessly - destroying the very source of the resources they demand.

All of that leads to only one logical result - a global ecological catastrophe. Indeed, when the natural mechanisms for population control growth fail for some reason and a population does explode and overpopulate its habitat, what happens next is depletion of available resources and a subsequent mass death in said population. And while this is also a natural mechanism of restrainment of the spread of a single species, with humans in particular there are certain implications, also as a result of the things which worsen the situation to begin with. Namely, the fact that humans have claimed every habitat and resource they can use, extends the overpopulation consequences beyond their own habitat and the resources they naturally need. In fact, their demand for all manner of resources, and their impact on the environment, is so vast, so all-devouring, that it leaves not a single spot on the planet unaffected. As a result, their population calamity will lead to the depletion, alternation or total destruction of so many ecosystems that hardly any other non-bacterial species on the planet will be left unharmed by it. In other words, you are racing towards an ecological catastrophe you've never even imagined let alone witnessed before.

None of this will lead to the extinction of Life as a whole. The planet will recover. It will shake humanity off like the disease this species has turned into, and in time, will develop new ecosystems. Even if it has to start over from scratch, it can totally do that.
However, do consider that all this destruction and death is going to happen solely because your "highly evolved" species cannot control its primitive drives and in particular keep its penis in the pants. In fact, you don't even need to keep your penis in your pants anymore, you've come up with a zillion ways of birth control if your sexual drive is so much stronger than you, the "highly evolved" who get insulted to be called a primate, even if that is exactly what you are. No, the truth is, so many of you will arrogantly refuse to practice population control on their own species (starting from themselves) because you just want babies so bad. That's also natural. But dear self-proclaimed "crown of evolution", when you're giving in to your selfish desires to grow a worm of your own, be honest with yourself and think of whether you even consider the kind of grim future you're contributing to - because the grim future of the other species is one your own species will also share, and that includes your beloved worm as well. The catastrophe is not an abstract hypothetical thing of the far future as you probably believe - it's already around the corner, coming. Don't fool yourselves anymore - your children WILL face it. Perhaps even YOU will. You fancy yourselves as a sentient species - or even as the only sentient species, as gruesomely arrogant as that is - but that doesn't imply only to be able to figure out how to start your car or what useless new gadgets to better spend your money on. Most of all, it should imply that you are able to see the consequence of your actions and take a certain responsibility. If you think of yourselves as of so much superior to all other animals, why don't you start to live up to this delusion of yours a little? Or should I understand that once you've invented the means to claim such superiority, praise your ego beyond measure and keep mindlessly boasting about it while your world is going down, you no longer need to evolve and use your glorified sentience? Because apparently this is as far as your species can go in its "superiority". Well, if that's the case, then I can think of a whole bunch of species who are superior to you. In fact.... pretty much all of them.

Too much hate? Well, you know me. And that is only a reaction to more and more human arrogance I clashed into recently. Blame that.

By the way, while putting the stamp together, I kept eww'ing to myself all the time, disgusted by the bunch of worms.... Eww.
That was until I came to the blood splatter part. Then my mind going: "Aah, finally something pleasant." Real story. Yeah folks, authentic Lapis.

I disable comments because, to me, there's nothing to discuss about it.
Sorry for robbing you of the chance to hate the hater, I know you love doing that.
But feel free to comment elsewhere on my profile, I'll gladly ignore your arguments there as well.

Feel free to use the stamp, just :+fav: it if you do.
