Sky og Nordlys over Tromsø

In the evening on December 21, the Winter Solstice, after the trip to the Lyngen Alps, the sky held another spectacular Northern Lights show.

The first time I watched it, the previous night, I had decided in advance, clear against my photographic instincts, to go without my camera. The second time however, I went for pictures.
It kind of surprised us soon after we had returned from the trip, so once again I only watched it from the backyard and from the lawn in front of the house. Still, some of the pictures I made were (almost) decent, given the conditions and light polution from the city. I still feel like a generic smart-shooter regarding these pictures (although you definitely cannot do that with a phone), strange feeling indeed. Turns out, taking those fantastic shots of Northern Lights I'm used to seeing taken by the pros is more difficult than it looks, as is with all nocturnal photography. Of course, it also requires better location and a long time (preferrably in multiple nights) of waiting for them to come from the perfect direction. However, we had a lot of other things to do in the evenings so we never went properly hunting for Northern Light pictures. Perhaps next time.
