Landscape speedpaint 6

Description

Helloooooooooo.

Well, perhaps some of you have noticed I don't paint digitally much lately.... ("lately" meaning "for over a year"). Part of the reason would be lack of desire and inspiration.... major part of it. Yet even back in the days when I did paint and draw more, there'd always been one thing which easily put me off of painting because of frustration: I cannot do decent landscapes. Like, I totally, utterly and profoundly suck at landscapes. And even if you don't really have to paint landscapes to do a painting, most of the scenes I imagine and the things I want to draw would really be poor and dull without a beautiful scenery behind as a background. Because my imagination lives in a beautiful fantasy world saturated with so many fantastic places and sceneries that my head goes dizzy. Because I just love Nature and its sceneries, I can never have enough of them. Sadly, none of this has proven to be enough.
You'd certainly say: "Then learn, ffs!" Yeah, well, easier said than done. I'm not really ashamed to say that the difficult and demanding process of learning how to properly paint realistically fantastic landscapes with dramatic land forms, spectacular nature, efficient perspective and composition and all that is not something I have the patience and devotion to go into. Not now, not ever, probably. However, I may have found a way to go around it. Who knows, in the process of going around the need to learn I might actually learn a bit after all XD

Long story short: I'm going to paint some landscapes now. This is the first of them, hopefully, lot.
This time however, I'm not using photo references. What I'm using then? Heh. You don't expect me to give away the Grand Mysterious Secret, do you? Anyway, first I'll probably go for some speedpaintings like this one, just to practice, to get a hunch of how it's best done and what I really want out of a landscape painting like this. Then I'm hoping to try doing more detailed and sophisticated stuff and start adding pretty thingies like castles and dragons. Again. I miss drawing dragons, that too is a fact.

So, first in the line is a canyon / mountain.... thing. Canyons proved to be difficult to paint (and a poor choice for a start, but that's a common thing for me) - because of the INSANE amount of detail that makes it difficult to stylize. I managed to get it into a simpler shape, somewhat. The mountains were much fun because snow. I love snowy mountains.
Frankly speaking those two elements seem like pieces cut out of totally different places and stitched together. I don't care. I got various practice and the outcome is pretty. Case closed.

Done in PS CS6 with Wacom Intuos4.
Original size: 4000 x 2193 px. Totally needless for this level of detail, but I've constructed myself a habit of drawing LARGE. Because I can and because my PC can.
